Old Mix: Altered State

Posted in mixes on January 12th, 2008 by Acieed Ed – Be the first to comment

A couple of years ago I made a mix which was inspired by this book. You can pick it up pretty cheap these days, and I just reread it. Would be nice if someone made a follow up of it. What happened after 1997 etc.

I tried to follow the line of the book a bit, from disco, electro to acid. Then moving on to harder breakbeat stuff upto gabber. Then back to new beat and eventually top 40 material (with as a bonus a great techno track).

The gaps between tracks are caused by bad ripping software in the past.

Both Kinds of Music

Another mix I did a little while ago, this time no electronix but good old house & acid featuring some of the usual suspects like a.o. Frankie Knuckles, Jamie Principle, Mr. Fingers, Virgo, Armando, Sterling Void, etc. etc.

Soundtrack

After watching escape from NY I got the idea to do a mix with tracks that sound like they could be part of a soundtrack. Realisation took a little while, but at least it’s more fitting now at the end of summer. The end result features no songs of actual soundtracks, instead expect some of Jeff Mills’ more experimental outings, some dark The Hague electronix, some artists usually doing IDM, not too many beats, and some playing with the mood of the mix.

Crazy T Mix: The Tape

Posted in mixes on June 5th, 2007 by Acieed Ed – Be the first to comment

Back in the early 90’s I was earning some extra pocket money together with Crazy T (aka Martijn Sengers). We regularly released compilations or mix tapes which we distributed on school. The money amount was small and not the main reason – we had so much fun doing this! The evangelism had great effect also! In no time most people that mattered to me were playing house, hip-hop, acid and new-beat on their walkmans.

After the other tapes I recently put online, here is a mix, mostly done by Crazy T. Go Bang!

Gathering Momentum – oldest Acieed Ed mix available

This is probably as old as it gets for me. Unless I find some tapes that I recorded from Ferry Maat’s Soul Show. This is my first complete mix ever, recorded when I was still in high school with nothing more then one record player sans pitch and a cd player. I did have a small mixing device with two channels and a double casette deck. This tape was played a lot in the lunch brake on school in the so-called koffiebar.

I had to borrow some records from someone (Frank) because I didn’t have enough music myself to switch between CD and records all the time. Lots of Go Bang! and R&S material.

Years later I met Frank again somewhere, and it turned out he kept all records on his attic and never listened to them again! I offered to buy them from him, but he didn’t take the bait. Too bad!

The tracklist is not accurate, but you get the idea :-)

Spiral Tribe Mix from old tape

Posted in mixes on May 16th, 2007 by Acieed Ed – 14 Comments

The legendary Spiral Tribe – we have to believe. It is an old tape from, I guess, around 1994 (could be 1993 if you look at some of the tracks). It is called “United Forces of Tekkno”, but the sound is more Acid then Tekkno if you compare it with todays standards.

Some trax on it I believe are:

  • Neuro: Mama
  • Vainqueur: Lyot (Maurizio Mix)
  • Lunatic Asylum: The Meltdown

Maybe we can make the tracklist complete like with the Dearborn mix.
